What is
Euthanasia?
The
definition of euthanasia simply means "an easy,
painless death." The word "euthanasia" derives
from the 17th century Greek and means "easy death." From "eu"
meaning "well" + "thanatos" meaning "death", euthanasia refers to the practice
of ending a life in a painless manner.
That is the most any of us can
hope for, and what we would all wish for our loved ones. A trip to the vet's
office has never been one of your cat's favorite experiences. It generally
involves a stressful car ride, an anxious and sometimes long wait in a busy
lobby, and often some discomfort for everyone involved.
Your cat's last hours really shouldn't take place in such a
foreign, anxiety-filled and clinical environment. Your cat is a member of your
family. They should be in the peaceful and familiar surroundings of their home,
and they should be in the company of the loving family with whom they have
bonded over a lifetime. Perhaps in a special place - their bed, on a sunlit
patio, or under a favorite tree.
When the time comes for this final goodbye,
Dr. Debra Rowell will come to your home to help you say goodbye to your cat in a
peaceful, kind and loving manner. After meeting with you and your family, Dr.
Rowell will administer a series of 1 or 2 injections. The first injection(s)
will tranquilize your cat and help them to become fully relaxed and free from
pain, usually within five to ten minutes.
